Throughout life we are all presented with different challenges that help us become the people we are today.
However there are several youths that fall through the cracks every single day due to the structure set forth by organizations
that are meant to help these person's lead a life where they can become successful adults.
While media is quick to zero in on the youths that have gotten lost on their paths and have turned
to a life of sex, violence and drugs, it has neglected to highlight that most of them are looking for a chance to leave that
life and get back on the right path. They do not protray the full picture. Many of the youths that fall through
the cracks are not criminals. They are victims of society not giving them a proper chance in life. The true
criminals are communities in which alternative venues do not exist.
It would be nice to believe that abuse does not exist in this world. It would be great
to be in denial that only troubled youths come from the wrong side of town. It would be delightful to believe
that it's not everyones business to ensure the wellbeing of youths.
The sad reality and maybe harshest truth is that these youths come from all types of backgrounds.
Some come from weathy backgrounds but the father has a need to satisfy himself by sexually assualting his children.
Some come from two parent incomes where one parent may not harm their children but are beating the other parent.
Or maybe it's not physical or even sexual. It can be consant insulting. Torment and riducle a child
is hearing on a regular basis. And yes it can even be the single parent who brings home a bad catch. There is
no specific profile out there. There is no set guideline to what abuse is. Society loves to put one but the
truth is abuse can be anything in this world that inflicts harm to another person in any way shape or form that is done on
a regular basis.
With that being said, sometimes there is no safe roof out there for youths to live under. Social
services are backed up or ignoring situations. Youth shelters are not easily accessible. That leaves to a youth
one option when the desperation gets strong enough that they can not deal anymore. It leaves them the option to
turn to the wrong side of the law to survive one day at a time. That is not at their own free will. That is due
to society failing them.
